TikTok introduces age-gate feature, removes 6 million videos violating guidelines

After receiving flak from the Madras high court for its children privacy violating video, a short video platform TikTok has introduced an age-gate feature to keep away underage users from the platform.
The feature will permit solely users above thirteen years to create an account on its platform.

As part of its safety mechanism, the Bytedance-owned platform has also removed over six million videos that have violated its community guidelines within the last eight-month.

TikTok got 90 million users in India for the past 3 months

Despite facing flak for sleazy content on its platform, Chinese owned by Chinese tech company ByteDance, TikTok became controversial within the past for illegally collecting personal info from kids in the U.S.A. and in other places for inappropriate content. Hearing a petition filed by an advocate, the Madras high court earlier this month asked the Centre to ban the app, saying it “encourages pornography” and is spoiling the future of youths and the minds of children.
But in terms of its reach, TikTok has simply had its best first quarter ever, adding an estimated 188 million during Q1, according to information analysis by sensor Tower.
